5 Great European City Break Destinations
Sometimes there’s nothing better than a city break. Exploring the streets, staying in a fabulous hotel, discovering the attractions and indulging in the local cuisine. Whether it’s just for a long weekend or an extended stay, a city break can offer the perfect escapism.
Here are five great European city break destinations…
Copenhagen
Denmark’s capital city is credited with being one of the most stylish and vibrant Scandinavian cities. It’s home to more than a million residents who whizz around this impeccable city on bikes.
The city has a multitude of world-class museums, amazing design and fashion scenes, beautiful cobbled streets, an elegant Royal Palace and is a hotbed for culinary talent. There are currently 15 Michelin-starred restaurants in the city, but you shouldn’t miss Noma – voted several times as the best restaurant in the world.
Madrid
Madrid is Spain’s lively capital city, with more than 3 million residents and a strong energy running throughout. Visitors can check out the numerous art galleries decorated with the works of some of Spain’s best artists by day, then enjoy the bar scene in the evening.
Madrid has attractive tree-lined streets, green parks and gardens and plenty of breath-taking architecture. There are medieval mansions, contemporary buildings, baroque touches and gorgeous royal palaces too.
Milan
Milan might be the capital of Italy’s Lombardy region but it’s mostly known for being the global capital of fashion and design. The Duomo, a grand Gothic cathedral, is a must see right in the heart of the city and one shouldn’t miss an opportunity to take in the opera at world-renowned La Scala.
A visit to Milan wouldn’t be complete without indulging in some shopping in this fashionable destination. Head to Quadrilatero della Moda and Quadrilatero d’Oro, two of the most popular fashion districts in the world.
Lisbon
Portugal’s capital city is built on a series of hills along the banks of the River Tagus. The best thing about the city being built on seven hills means that at the top of every one are picturesque views over the terracotta rooftops towards the river.
If ever a city embodied the idea of café culture, Lisbon is it. There are hundreds of traditional tabernas, chic cafes and upscale wine-bars throughout the city, most of which make the most of the Portuguese sunshine in summer with tables spilling out onto the streets.
Kraków
One of Poland’s largest cities, Kraków has a wonderfully well-preserved Old Town surrounded by remnants of the city’s medieval walls and is the perfect place to explore, shop, eat, drink and relax.
There are plenty of 5-star hotels to rest your head during your time in Kraków. There’s Sheraton Grand Kraków, Radisson Blu, Crown Piast Hotel and Park, Bonerowski Palace and Hotel Copernicus to name a few. You’ll find everything you need for a luxury break in one of these stylish hotels.
Travel to any one of these cities for a short break by chartering a private jet.
