Air Cargo India set to return to Mumbai as country gears up for growth

This month sees the return of Air Cargo India – the leading event of its kind for India’s air freight industry and global shippers looking to explore the potential of one of the world’s key emerging markets.

India has long been tipped as having the potential to become a key hub for the international air cargo market, but in the past factors such as a lack of economic reform and infrastructure issues have slowed its development.

However, despite the challenges of the past, India’s cargo sector is showing signs it is now ready to take off – with the country’s economy set to steal the limelight from China in terms of growth figures, according to economists.

Analysts believe India is likely to be the only economy in the world to expand more than 7 percent in 2016 – and with growth predictions for neighbouring Bangladesh and Sri Lanka also set at over 6 percent, South Asia as a whole is firmly on the radar for the year ahead.

Chapman Freeborn’s Shailendra Seth, says:

“From the perspective of a global air charter specialist, India is one of the most exciting markets to be involved in at the moment. While the country previously lagged behind China in terms of realising its growth potential, the feeling here is that the air cargo market is now rapidly changing. Air Cargo India is coming at the perfect time for the industry as a whole to come together and explore the possibilities.”

In addition to the exhibition floor, a panel of air cargo leaders from across the industry will debate topics ranging from the cargo challenges of e-Commerce to India’s growing status as a pharmaceutical export hub.

Alongside a selection of other industry specialists, Chapman Freeborn CEO Russi Batliwala will also appear on an expert panel chaired by Glyn Hughes, Global Head of Cargo at IATA, to discuss how air cargo can help India realise its full potential.
