Best of Galle, Sri Lanka | Private jet charter

The city of Galle is located on Sri Lanka’s southwest coast – and notable for its spectacular Fort and sunsets at Flag Rock, as well as its colonial sea walls surrounding its old town. Here are 5 reasons to visit Galle via private jet charter…

Galle Lighthouse

Built in 1939, Galle Lighthouse stands within the walls of Galle Fort at an impressive 87 ft. Surrounded by palm trees, the lighthouse is a perfect photo opportunity, but only from the outside as the public are not allowed inside.

Meeran Mosque

A mix of architectural styles including Baroque, Victorian and Islamic features, Meeran Mosque is opposite the lighthouse. Non-Muslims can visit inside as long as they are appropriately dressed. Inside there’s the mihrab, complete with small decorative domes, and some period floor tiling.

Church Street Social restaurant

You’ll find this laid back, smart air-conditioned restaurant at the Fort Bazaar hotel, with its shady veranda, convivial bar and delicious Sri Lankan and Asian fusion cuisine. The 17th-century townhouse hotel has 18 rooms and is centered around a traditional courtyard in the heart of Galle Fort.

Unawatuna Bay

Protected by a reef and located just three miles southeast of Galle, Unawatuna is a beautiful tropical beach located on a crescent-shaped bay. Fringed with coconut palms alongside golden sands, the reef breaks make it a safe snorkelling, swimming and scuba diving location. Rumassala Hill behind the beach offers beautiful views of the southern coast of Galle. While Dalawela beach offers natural swimming pools and charming guest houses.

Sea Turtle Hatchery

Located just five miles south of Galle in Habaraduwa, the fabulous non-profit Sea Turtle Hatchery breeds and protects the local endangered sea turtles. Founded in 1986, the group has been so successful it has released over half a million turtles back into the ocean. Visitors may well see all the species that live here: Olive Ridley, Loggerhead, Green, Hawksbill and Leatherhead turtles.
