Breakbulk China 2015: Air cargo and on board courier set for further expansion

In less than a week, our China air cargo team will be heading to Breakbulk China 2015, a key event in the diary of all those involved in the movement of heavy and outsize equipment and project cargo.

The event, held at the Shanghai World Expo Centre in China, is set to attract a host of delegates from leading international logistics firms as well as key players from the Chinese air cargo industry.

The exhibition will give professionals the opportunity to analyse the progress China’s air cargo industry has made over the past two years.

A continuing growth in exports and imports of breakbulk and project cargo has placed China in the global spotlight in recent years and there has been increased demand for heavy-lift air cargo charters and time-critical deliveries.

The US west-coast port strike has also had a dramatic effect on the air cargo industry in the region. Diana Kang, Charter Sales Manager at Chapman Freeborn China, comments: “As a result of ongoing growth combined with the US port strike, we’ve seen an unprecedented increase in the demand for air cargo movements, particularly within the automotive industry.”

Aaron Huang, Charter Sales at Chapman Freeborn adds: “Along with automotive business, the electronics industry is a huge growth area for us. With the Chinese government continuing to support enterprise across the country, electronic exports have increased, including internationally in-demand products like Apple’s iPhone and iPad.”

On the back of this growth, demand for on board courier (OBC) services is also on the rise in the region. Chapman Freeborn’s OBC headquarters in Hong Kong serves as an interconnecting hub between Europe, US, China and other parts of Asia.

Diana adds: “Our OBC specialists in Hong Kong are seeing increased demand in the same industries, but their strategic positioning also means they are being called upon to transport more and more time critical components and spare parts to the energy industry”
