Chapman Freeborn shows support for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life
Chapman Freeborn Airchartering is pleased to announce that it will be a corporate sponsor for the 2011 Fort Lauderdale Relay for Life supporting the American Cancer Society.
The yearly fundraising event, held at parks and fairgrounds across the country, aims to raise cancer awareness through team-sponsored participation in a 24-hour walk.
Chapman Freeborn’s team, lead by team captain Kristina Shore from the U.S. office, is looking to raise $2,500 in support of the charity.
Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, the American Cancer society’s mission is nothing less than “to eliminate cancer as a major health problem” by raising funds for cancer research and improve national awareness of the disease and its prevention amongst Americans.
Its signature fundraising event, The Relay for Life, was inspired by Dr. Gordy Klatt who in 1985 walked non-stop around a track for 24 hours in an effort to raise money for the society. Now, more than 3.5 million people in over 5,100 communities across the nation participate in a show of solidarity against the devastating disease.
This year’s Relay will take place May 21, 2011 at the Huizenga Plaza in downtown Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
As a community outreach effort, Chapman Freeborn recently sponsored a “Countdown to the Relay” party at America’s Backyard (100 SW 3rd Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312).
The team was joined by friends, clients, and the local community for an evening of fun. A silent auction was held for Sports Memorabilia and Gift certificates for local businesses – with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
Thanks to everyone’s support and efforts, Chapman Freeborn’s US team raised nearly $1300 at the event.
With only 52 days left until the actual “Relay”, we are very close to meeting our goal of US $2,500!
