Desert Botanical Garden
A 140-acre haven, Phoenix Desert Botanical Garden is located at Papago Park and offers visitors five unique trails to explore – you could easily spend half a day or more here. There’s a garden shop as well as self-guided and guided tours of this homage to indigenous flora and fauna. You’ll also come across a butterfly pavilion, owls, and other animals and there are plenty of water stations and a cafe.
Phoenix Art Museum
Founded in 1959, the Phoenix Art Museum is a treasure trove of European, Latin American Asian, American and modern art, with a nod to fashion design, from the Renaissance to today. Current exhibitions include works by Yayoi Kusma and Carlos Amorales. Take a break from the art at Palette, the museum’s own American restaurant. There’s also a shop selling prints, jewellery and clothing.
Heritage Square at Heritage and Science Park
History buffs will love the chance to wander among Phoenix’s vibrant Victorian heritage on this beautiful square that plays host to many festivals and concerts throughout the year. Historic homes on the Square include the 1895 Rosson House which has daily tours. Visit the interactive Arizona Science Center here, with its planetarium and IMAX theatre, as well as nearby Wells Fargo Museum and the Police Museum.
