Spring Travel Destinations | New York, New York
With spring fast approaching many people will be starting to map out their travel plans for the new season. Spring officially begins on the 20th March and until then we’ll be bringing you great spring travel destinations each week on our blog.
Spring is a perfect time to visit New York as it’s considerably quieter than at other times of the year. You’ll avoid the freezing temperatures of winter and the oppressive heat and humidity of summer, making it the ideal time for sightseeing and exploring in the city that never sleeps.
Something incredibly popular in spring in New York is the Macy’s Flower Show. This year the festival runs from 26th March until 9th April at Macy’s Herald Square. In 2016, there were around one million flowers, trees and plants included in the show, with breath-taking arrangements and displays all tailored to a specific theme.
Floral-lovers also shouldn’t miss out on a trip to New York Botanical Gardens in The Bronx neighbourhood. In spring there is a magnificent Orchid Show, with this year’s theme being Thailand. Thailand is where orchids originate from and this show will bring together traditional Thai dance performances, film screenings, tours of the gardens, orchid care demonstrations and more.
Tribeca Film Festival is another incredibly popular spring event in the city. It runs from 13th – 24th April and it sees this area in lower Manhattan come alive. Screenings for fantastic films run throughout the festival and attract celebrities from across the globe. Tickets aren’t easy to come by, but if you do manage to get your hands on some it’s something you’ll love being a part of.
No visit to New York would really be complete without visiting Central Park. Central Park is quintessentially New York, is one of the most filmed locations in the world, and attracts around 40 million visitors every single year. Spanning more than 800 acres, the park is an oasis of calm amidst the buzz of the city. Stroll through the park, through perfectly manicured gardens, wild meadows, over bridges, and take in all of the natural beauty that surrounds you.
The United States’ largest city is incredibly well-connected when it comes to air travel. Newark Liberty International Airport, La Guardia Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airports are all within less than 20 miles of the city.
