Top 10 MICE destinations for 2017
The world’s most popular meetings and incentive travel destinations
The meetings, incentives, conferences and events travel market (MICE) is a multi-billion dollar industry. Competition is fierce, due to the rewards of increased revenue across many sectors in the host location, from hotels and associated services, to restaurants and entertainment.
Cvent, a cloud-based enterprise event management company recently announced the top worldwide MICE destinations across the United States (US), Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Asia Pacific (APAC) regions. The results were compiled according to booking activity through the Cvent Supplier Network throughout 2016.
Top 10 MICE destinations in Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA)
London claimed first place in Cvent’s listing, followed by Barcelona, Berlin and Amsterdam. In fifth place was Paris, leading Madrid, Frankfurt, Rome, Munich and in 10th place, the Czech capital Prague. London remains a European MICE destination favourite, thanks to its cultural heritage, political stability, and its convenient location as the world’s most connected city, with 396 flights to international destinations. A renowned tech hub, the UK capital offers corporate event delegates more than 1,000 conference venues, and over 140,000 hotel rooms. And for foodies – the capital has 66 Michelin-starred restaurants.
Top 10 MICE destinations in the United States
The top four Stateside corporate event destinations are Orlando, Las Vegas, Chicago and Atlanta. Followed by San Diego, Washington, Nashville, Dallas, New York and Phoenix. Atlanta has a hospitality industry worth $15 billion and attracts nearly 51 million visitors a year – 14 million of which are business travellers. With the fourth-largest convention centre in the US, and 80% of the United States within a two-hour flight, no wonder Atlanta is America’s top conference and events destination. The city’s walkable convention and entertainment district offers over 11,700 hotel rooms and attractions including the Atlanta Botanical Garden and the Georgia Aquarium.
Top 10 MICE destinations in Asia Pacific (AFAC)
Singapore takes first place as the most visited Asia Pacific meetings, incentives and conference destination with Sydney, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpar close behind. These top four are followed by Hong Kong, Shanghai, Melbourne, Tokyo, Mumbai and Seoul. Singapore’s Changi airport serves over 100 airlines that fly to 300 cities worldwide. The award-winning events destination has 4 billion people within a 7-hour flight and is renowned for its superb infrastructure and political stability. Sheltered from natural disasters, Singapore has an efficient public transport system and is a luxury retail haven. The city’s restaurant scene is legendary, from Joël Robuchon’s eponymous Restaurant to Peranakan cuisine from Violet Oon at her National Kitchen.
MICE events drive local economies
“Corporate events remain important economic drivers for cities globally, and we’re seeing a direct correlation between economic strength and event activity in our rankings,” said Kevin Fliess, vice president of worldwide marketing for Cvent’s Hospitality Cloud.
