Vienna Sightseeing
Follow the Imperial Habsburg dynasty – With visits to the Baroque palaces of Schönbrunn (Empress Sissi’s former summer residence) and the Belvedere (home to Klimt’s The Kiss). Tiergarten Schönbrunn (aka Vienna Zoo) is located in the grounds of Schönbrunn and is the world’s oldest surviving zoo – don’t miss the gorgeous baby pandas.
Walk along the Ringstrasse – This beautiful tree-lined boulevard is home to the Hofburg Imperial Palace and the Sisi Museum, as well as several magnificent mansions. Alternatively, catch the non-stop Vienna Ring Tram that laps the Ringstrasse every half hour from Schwedenplatz. The loop takes 25 minutes.
Spanish Riding School – Watch the talented Lippizan riders and horses practice their routines. Guided tours include visits to the stables.
St Stephen’s Cathedral (Stefansdom) – A stunning Gothic structure that’s arguably the symbol of Vienna. Climb up 343 steps into the tower for breathtaking views.
The State Opera – Buy a ticket for a performance or a tour – the architecture and interiors here are incredible.
Vienna Coffeehouses
Renowned for its café (and cake!) culture, Vienna coffeehouses may be tourist bait but they are unmissable. Enjoy the ‘gemutlichkeit’ in these beautifully restored period buildings that hark back to a more refined era – now protected by UNESCO. You’ll find Sachertorte, apple strudel, Bundt cake, Kaiserschmarren and more in these Old City favourites: Café Museum, Café Mozart, Café Central, Café Bellaria, Demel K, Café Hawelka, Café Hofburg, Café Landtmann and Café Imperial.
Vienna Shopping
From luxury brands to flea markets, antique shops to trendy boutiques, Vienna has an eclectic shopping scene to suit every taste. The Goldenes Quartier (between the Kohlmarket and Kärntner Strasse) in Vienna’s Old City boasts flagship stores from Louis Vuitton, Armani, Prada, Miu Miu, Alexander McQueen and many more. Vienna’s finest traditional jewellers are also here: Schullin, Wagner and Bucherer in addition to luxe international brands such as Cartier, Chopard and Tiffany.
