Getty Centre

The home of J. Paul Getty’s extraordinary art collection has expanded to a selection of four white metal-clad pavilions housing an incomparable selection of art. Linked by walkways, the North Pavilion feature pieces prior to 1600; the East and South Pavilions display artefacts from the 17th and 18th-centuries, while the West shows items from the 1800s to today. There’s a café here and restaurant, as well as the Research Institute with its renowned art and architecture library.

Universal Studios Tour

Universal Studios theme park is an enjoyable day out, but the park’s main attraction is the studio tour. Walk among the backlots of the Old West and other favourite movie landmarks, and experience interactive special effects as well as an appearance from Jaws himself. The theme park’s top attraction is the amazing Wizarding World of Harry Potter, followed by the Transformers ride, Jurassic Park and Revenge of the Mummy.

Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach

Santa Monica is a family and local favourite, especially at weekends, when the Pier’s attractions are a hub of activity. Experience the Ferris wheel, aquarium, fairground rides and outdoor music events.

Hike Runyon Canyon

This 160-acre park is located at the eastern tip of the Santa Monica Mountains and there’s free yoga classes each morning to help you limber up for the hike ahead. Trails range from easy downhill to steeper inclines. Park at the Highland and Hollywood Center, and bring your own water and sturdy shoes as the trail can be slippery. Those that make the effort will be rewarded with panoramic views across LA, including the Hollywood sign.

Griffith Observatory

Griffith Observatory is an unmissable Los Angeles attraction, and has appeared in many Hollywood movies. Plan to spend half a day here enjoying the exhibits and shows – from the Hall of the Sky and Hall of the Eye display – to the Planetarium. Watch a short movie about the history of the observatory in the Leonard Nimoy Theater and stop for a bite to eat at the Café at the End of the World.

Shop on Rodeo Drive

Rodeo Drive will always be synonymous with luxury labels – and Julia Roberts’ appearance in the movie Pretty Woman. Among the high-end designers is an Apple Store and a Barneys, as well as a cinema. The great plus of Rodeo Drive is that you can walk outside from shop to shop. And there’s a farmers market adjacent.
