Winter sun in Goa | Private jet charter

Located in western India with a coastline bordering the Arabian Sea, Goa is a former Portuguese colony, evident in its preserved architecture. With its swaying palms, idyllic beaches, fabulous fusion cuisine and a languorous, chilled holiday vibe, here are 6 reasons to charter a private jet to Goa today.

Galgibaga Beach

Escape the crowds and the resort beaches and head for Galgibaga Beach in South Goa, the nesting place for the Olive Ridley turtles who live in the protected northern part of the beach. It’s a tranquil haven located on the banks of the Galgibaga River, about 54km from the town of Margao.

Fort Aguada

Located on a peninsula overlooking the Arabian Sea on the Aguada-Siolim Road in Sinquerim, this stunning 400-year old Portuguese fort is the best-preserved in India and once defended the area from Dutch and Maratha invaders. Named after the nearby freshwater spring, it never fell into enemy hands. There’s a four-storey lighthouse here too, the unmissable Church of St Lawrence, as well as the luxury Taj Fort Aguada hotel.

Se Cathedral, Old Goa

Dedicated to St Catherine, this beautiful church in Old Goa is located near Terreiro de Sabao. Its beautiful Iberian façade, coupled with soaring ceilings, beautiful mosaic work, carvings and marble are a feast for the senses. Adjoining the cathedral is a convent now housing an archaeological museum, while the Bom Jesus Basilica is on the opposite side of the square.

Savoi Plantation

Owned and managed by the Shetye family since 1985, Savoi Plantation covers 100 acres and is over 200 years old. Located in the village of Savoi, just 25km from Panjim, the plantation is a treasure trove of organic medicinal herbs, flowers, plants and spices. Guests are welcome to stay for a superb meal and a demonstration of dance, music and folklore.

Dudhsagar Falls (Mollem National Park)

Part of the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary, Dudhsagar Falls plunge majestically from a height of 1017ft and splits into three streams as it descends a vertical cliff face into a deep green pool. The deeply forested area around the falls is protected yet visitors have the option to camp at the foot of the falls. Access is by foot or rail – to Kulem station – and there are guided tours too. Or perhaps hire a Jeep and driver to take you to the nearest point, around a 1km walk from the falls.

Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary

Head to the foothills of the Western Ghats and experience the largest wildlife preserve in Goa. As well as the animals and plant life, the sanctuary is home to the Dudhsagar Falls, Tambdi Surla temple, Tabmbdi Falls and Devil’s Canyon. A popular tourist destination between October and March, the Sanctuary is also spectacular during the rainy season. Located in eastern Goa, near Mollem.
