Cargo Air Charter

Chapman Freeborn South Africa motors into action with B747-200F air charters

Chapman Freeborn’s South Africa team recently organised the transportation of 41 vehicles from Muscat, Oman, to Bujumbura in Burundi on two Boeing B747-200F aircraft.

The consignment – comprising of 40 Mercedes-Benz S350 sedans and a Toyota Land Cruiser V8 – was required for a high-profile motorcade event.

Chapman Freeborn South Africa’s in-house loadmaster specialist Heinz Lange helped to coordinate the two cargo air charters – optimising space on the B747-200F aircraft by using car rack platforms (see pictures). Lloyd D’Souza from the team also flew to Muscat to help oversee the cargo loading operation.

Chapman Freeborn has flown all kinds of different vehicles on chartered freighter aircraft over the years – including outsize fuel trucks, 4×4 aid agency vehicles and search helicopters, as well as jet aircraft for aerobatic displays.

Last year the South Africa team was also involved in coordinating two Boeing B747-400F charters to transport 200 tons of air cargo for the Spanish leg of the MotoGP tour – including 70 superbikes and other technical support equipment.
