How to do Stockholm in style

Known for being the stylish capital of Sweden, Stockholm is a great city break destination. Stretched across 14 different islands in the breath-taking Stockholm archipelago, it beckons travellers from all over the world. With its clean, safe, elegant, trendy and characterful atmosphere, Stockholm is a city that’s easy to fall in love with.

What to see

Gamla Stan is the historic hub of the city and is home to colourful architecture and cobblestone streets. It is credited with being one of the most well preserved medieval city centres in the world and with gorgeous buildings at every turn it is perfect for exploring on foot.

Be sure to visit the beautiful City Hall, where the Nobel Banquet is held each year. Explore the Vasa Museum – a maritime museum with the remains of a 17th century sailing ship that was salvaged from the sea as the striking centre piece.

Where to stay

Stockholm is a popular destination all year round with visitors and it is home to many fantastic hotels. If your favoured hotel style is classic chic then head to either the Grand Hotel Stockholm, Lydmar Hotel or Nobis Hotel Stockholm, all of which embody the idea of understated luxury. If you like staying in high-end international hotel chains where you know exactly what to expect, then you’ll want to check into Sheraton Stockholm Hotel, Radisson Blu Strand Hotel or Radisson Blu Royal Viking.

Where to eat

Stockholm offers a multitude of excellent options for dining out, and there are restaurants offering both traditional and contemporary cuisine. For fresh seafood straight from the Baltic Sea head to Wedholms Fisk, a restaurant devoted entirely to seafood with picturesque views out to sea. No Stockholm adventure would be complete without trying some traditional Swedish cuisine, so be sure to visit Pontus for innovative twists on Swedish favourites.

Where to drink

As far as cities with great bar scenes go, it doesn’t get much better than Stockholm. There are numerous craft breweries dotted throughout the city and its surrounds, so be sure to try some of the local beers during your trip. Perfect places for sampling craft beers are Akkurat, Aarts, The Flying Elk and Tweed.

Bernie’s is a speakeasy-style bar that serves up incredible cocktails, while Riche is an attractive art deco-style bar with an extensive list of world-class wines.

Where to shop

Shopping is big business in Stockholm, one of the trendiest cities in Scandinavia. The most affluent shopping district in the city is Bibliotekstan – a pedestrian area downtown between Stureplan and Norrmalmstorg. In this area you’ll find the very best Swedish designer stores.
