Can I take pets on a private jet?

Yes you can – unlike commercial flights where pets must be kept in the hold, your companions can be with you in the aircraft cabin for the duration of your journey. A flight can be a traumatic experience for a pet, but with a private jet charter, many of these stresses are lessened.

Chartering a private jet with Chapman Freeborn means that we can pre clear you and your pets so that the time spent at airports and queues are avoided. Having your four-legged friends in the cabin will also give you peace of mind not having to worry about how they are coping in the loud and uncomfortable cargo hold.

There are a few regulations that need to be followed in order for your pet to fly with you. Some of these regulations depend where you are flying to or from.

Departing from the UK

Several private jet operators have the ability to handle private jet charters for pets. The main thing to consider though, is that the animal meets the regulations set out by the UK government’s PETS scheme. This is a system that allows animals to travel between member countries without undergoing quarantine. These are countries that are typically free from contagious diseases such as rabies. If an animal is flying to or from a European Union country, the United States, Canada, Australia or New Zealand, it will be assigned a pet passport as proof of this.

Arriving to the UK

If a pet is arriving via private jet to the UK, the aircraft will need to land at a DEFRA (Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs) approved airport. There are several of these dotted evenly around the country, with seven certified London airports.

Flying to the USA

The US equivalent of DEFRA—the US Department of Transportation and their Department of Agriculture—have three strict regulations that must be followed for pets flying to or within the country. Pets must be at least eight weeks old, the animals must have been weaned prior to arrival, and they must have been vaccinated against rabies.
