Spring Travel Destinations | The Diverse Dominican Republic

With spring fast approaching many people will be starting to map out their travel plans for the new season. Spring officially begins on the 20th March and until then we’ll be bringing you great spring travel destinations each week on our blog.

The Dominican Republic is a fantastic destination to visit in spring time, with warm weather, long days of sunshine and plenty to occupy your time. Whilst many people head to the Dominican Republic with the sole intention of relaxing by the pool or on one of the island’s picture-perfect beaches, there’s so much more to it than that.

The Dominican Republic has an average temperature of around 28 degrees Celsius in April and, while there is a chance of rain some days, the majority are blissfully warm and dry.

The Dominican Republic is without a doubt one of the most diverse countries within the Caribbean. It is a sovereign state, sharing the gorgeous island of Hispaniola with Haiti to the west. It is home to four mountain ranges, and to Pico Duarte, the highest mountain in the Caribbean standing at more than 10,000 feet above sea level.

Across the island there are also valleys, plains, sugar plantations, lakes, coastal lagoons and areas of verdant rainforest. This makes it a truly wonderful island for those who enjoy getting lost in nature and exploring different landscapes and geographical sites. There are numerous hiking and walking trails all over the Dominican Republic for those who appreciate a bit of exercise during their holiday.

Punta Cana is the most popular destination on the island, with the beaches here consistently being rated among the very best in the world. There are more than 50 miles of beaches in this region, meaning you’re sure to find one that you’ll absolutely adore. Whether you like busy beaches with the opportunity to indulge in some water sports, or empty sands where you can relax in peace and tranquillity, there’s bound to be something for everyone.

There is no shortage of luxurious hotels in Punta Cana that are sure to delight visitors and offer a magnificent holiday experience. Try out Eden Roc at Cap Cana, Westin Puntacana Resort and Club, The Reserve at Paradisus Punta Cana, Tortuga Bay and Sivory Punta Cana.

Don’t visit the Dominican Republic without experiencing merengue – a style of Dominican music and dance. Merengue originated here and is still incredibly popular throughout the island. Head into one of the towns or cities at night where you’ll find merengue bars dotted around, populated by locals and tourists alike. Don’t hesitate to get on the dancefloor and try out this vibrant and exciting dance.
