Visit Geneva – the perfect weekend getaway | Private jet charter

Located in the French-speaking part of Switzerland on the shores of Lake Geneva (Lac Léman), the city is a major financial centre, and offers visitors superb restaurants and nightlife, a rich cultural scene and outstanding outdoors attractions in this stunning lake and mountain region.

Geneva Old Town

Geneva’s Old Town is dominated by St Peter’s Cathedral – climb the 157 steps to the top of the tower for a unique panorama of the city. The Old Town has many independent restaurants and shops. Grab a coffee and people watch at the Place du Bourg-de-Four. Geneva’s oldest square is the perfect place for cocktails once the sun goes down. The city’s oldest private residence, Maison Tavel is an amazing example of Medieval architecture with engravings and paintings.

Jet d’Eau

Geneva’s iconic fountain rises 140m from a stone jetty on the lakeside at Eaux-Vives – a unique emblem of the city. Created in 1886, its underground pumping station releases 500 litres of water per second into the Geneva sky – at a speed of 200km/h. Originally built to release water pressure, the Jet d’Eau is open every day, subject to weather conditions.

Geneva Shopping

The block around Place du Molard may be well stocked with designer boutique options and department stores, but the surrounding side streets and downtown villages like Eaux Vives, Carouge and Quartier des Bains have a wealth of interesting and creative one-offs.

Boat trip on Lake Geneva

The best place to enjoy Geneva is on a CGN ferry that takes passengers to various destinations around Lac Leman. Jump on a Mouette taxi-boat for a short hop from right bank to left bank or join a day trip to stunning lakeside locations. Starting points include: Geneva, Nyon, Yvoire, Lausanne, Vevey, and Montreux.

Hike Mont Saleve

Probably the best views of Geneva – and the Alps – are to be had from the top of Mont Saleve. Take a taxi to the French border (Douane) and walk the 500m into France and join the cable car. From the base station at Veyrier it’s a short ride up to 1,379m for superlative views of the city and lake.
