Home to just over 200,000 people, Split is the largest city on the Adriatic Coast. Your private jet charter will touch down at the nearby airport, just 19 kilometres from the centre.
Take a private taxi ride into Split and straight to your hotel. Split has all the choices you’d expect from a modern, vibrant city. Try Hotel Posh, a hotel made up entirely of self-contained suites, surrounding an infinity pool and with on-site spa facilities.
With the beach nearby and facilities including private yacht hire, Posh is part of a new wave of accommodation for tourists looking for both luxury and privacy.
If you want to get even closer to the beach, Split has a wealth of beachside villas to rent complete with pools and plenty of space to enjoy a week or two in the sun.
In the city itself, you’ll find stunning architectural sites including Diocletian’s Palace, the former Croatian home of the Roman Emperor. Built at the turn of the 4th Century, this sprawling complex covers the Old Town and is a morning of your trip well spent.
Nearby you’ll also find the Cathedral of St Domnius, whose views from the belltower are well worth the climb.
Outside of the city, a day trip to the island of Trogir is a fascinating break from the norm. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a stunning destination and after you’ve visited the centre, you’ll have plenty of time for aperitifs by the harbour.
And dining out on Trogir or in Split itself is always a satisfying experience. Try Portofino offering steak, pasta and seafood in a quaint, authentic setting just off the main Peristil Square.
Or for a different take on seafood head to the Adriatic Sushi and Oyster Bar in the heart of Diocletian’s Palace, combining the Mediterranean with the unique flavours of Japan.
For a post-dinner drink, head down the Ulica Iza Loze alleyway and stumble across Cocktail Bar GAGA. Great music, creative drinks and a fun ambience – the perfect end to an evening in Split.
If you’re a sun-seeker, you’ll love the soaring temperatures in July and August. But along with the heat comes the crowds so be prepared to share your space with hundreds of other visitors. Outside the main tourist season, September and October are the perfect times of year to visit. Still warm enough for a swim but with fewer people, Split is far more pleasant.
Once seen as a transit city to land and move on from, Split is now a destination in its own right. Packed full of sites, great food and the kind of welcome Croatia is known for, you won’t regret booking a private jet hire to this amazing city.
