This is a destination that never gets old and when you spot Paris’ twinkling lights below as you cruise in on your private charter flight, you can see why it’s nicknamed La Ville Lumière (City of Light).
Charles De Gaulle airport is just 34km away from the city and should take your driver no more than 45 minutes to weave through the traffic.
Depending on your tastes in arrondissements you’ll have the best of the city’s accommodation to choose from. Freshen up from your flight before venturing out and into the city. One of the most picturesque quarters is that of the 5th arrondissement, the historic heart of Paris.
Here you’ll find the Melia Notre Dame Hotel, boutique four-star accommodation minutes from the Cathedral, the Pantheon and the picturesque Luxembourg Gardens. Other options include Hotel La Lanterne and the Hotel Les Dames du Panthéon.
If you love fine dining, you’re in the right city. Paris is second only to Tokyo for holding the most Michelin-starred restaurants in the world and the choice of food is endless. Why not start at Pierre Gagnaire, a restaurant with no less than three Michelin stars and a firm favourite thanks to its exciting menu, reflecting the best seasonal and local produce.
For a feast for the eyes as well as the taste buds, don’t miss Comice – headed up by husband-and-wife chef and sommelier team. The beautiful flower table decorations are arranged by a local florist and the light, elegant food has won them many fans.
When it comes to attractions, naturally you’ll want to take in the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Sacre Coeur and Notre Dame but there are other pleasures to uncover.
Take a private guided tour and lunch at the Versailles Palace or get lost at the Grande Mosquée de Paris, over a hectare of lovely architecture and containing a souk, hammam and North African restaurant – all set amid orange-blossomed courtyards.
Of course, you’ll find many of the best shopping down the Champs Elysées but the breath-taking grandeur of department stores such as Galeries Lafayette on Boulevard Haussmann still dominate with their Belle Epoque glamour.
And after a hard day’s shopping unwind early in the evening with an aperitif on top of the Gare de l’Est train station at Le Perchoir L’Est. Alternatively for some Parisian romance, head up again to the Terrass Hotel roof bar in the Montmartre area, offering beautiful views and even better cocktails.
As a European city, Paris experiences all four seasons and can get seriously cold between December and February, warming up in the spring. The summers can feel a little stifling so April to June or September and October are ideal times to visit.
