5 places not to miss in South America

Medellín, Colombia

South America is a continent that will appeal to everyone. From its array of beautiful nature found in the mountains, lush rainforests, dramatic glaciers and picture-perfect beaches, to its stunning architecture, ruins and fascinating history. Here are five amazing places you shouldn’t miss on a trip to South America…

1. Buenos Aires, Argentina

Argentina’s capital city simply buzzes with life. It is often referred to as the ‘Paris of South America’, thanks to its strong European roots, culture and architecture. After a day of sightseeing and exploring, the perfect evening in Buenos Aires would include eating steak in a traditional parrilla, washing it down with some fine Argentinian red wine and then heading to a tango club to try out tango in the birthplace of the dance.

2. Medellín, Colombia

Medellín is Colombia’s liveliest and most colourful city, home to almost four million people. It is a city with a fascinating and turbulent history, and enjoys a gorgeous setting within a sweeping valley. It has a dewy spring-like climate all year round, plenty of brilliant art galleries, intriguing museums and culture.

3. Lima, Peru

Lima is the third largest city in the Americas with over 11 million people living there. The entire centre of the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, thanks to the beautiful architecture. Be sure to pack your camera as it’s the ideal place to explore on foot for those that really appreciate architecture and beauty. Lima is also home to sprawling museums packed with ancient artefacts from the history of Peru and a wonderful gastronomic scene that foodies are sure to be delighted with.

4. Santiago, Chile

Chile’s capital and largest city is located at an elevation of more than 500 metres, meaning there are incredible landscapes and views peppered throughout. Santiago is an energetic city with elegant neoclassical architecture, a multitude of neighbourhoods, all with their own atmosphere, and a superb emerging food scene. Be sure to take the time to enjoy a few pre or post-dinner pisco sours – a delicious cocktail that was created in South America.

5. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Rio de Janeiro is a truly unique South American city. It’s blessed with show stopping beaches (the most famous being Ipanema Beach and Copacabana Beach), fringed with verdant mountains, plenty of native animals, and locals who really know how to throw a festival or party. It’s the type of city you visit and quickly fall in love with and always yearn to return to.

Each of these destinations are some of the most popular places we charter private jets to and from in South America.
